Assertion Analysis #2

America is the place to be at, right? With all of new technology, cars, and many opportunities — no one can compete with that. However Author, Bill Bryson, has a different opinion on the topic. As he becomes more aware of what America really is, he realizes that is isn't all unicorns and rainbows and is unimpressed along with displeased with the outcome. He uses techniques such as syntax and hyperbole to illustrate how he really feels.
Bill Bryson uses syntax to sarcastically praise America and how it is the "richest and most powerful nation on earth because God likes us best". By using this technique, he goes on and makes a never ending list as to why America is superior to every other country. The list helps get his point across to make sure the audience knows "America is the best". Not only does he create the long list, he is also exaggerates about it.
The author uses hyperbole to make things look better than they seem. He sarcastically says that one of the reasons why we are so superior is because of our ridiculously low gasoline price. However, this is fact is proven wrong hence Fox Business ranked us one of the top 10 countries with the highest gasoline prices.
